Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump went head-to-head this past Tuesday, laying out their contrasting policy visions in their first presidential debate.

Yahoo Finance Senior Columnist Rick Newman joins Catalysts to discuss Harris's policy positions and how she may sway undecided voters come November. Many experts believe a recent endorsement by musician Taylor Swift could push voter participation and get younger Americans to the polls.

Newman highlights three policy areas where Harris changed her position from her 2019 presidential campaign. First, he highlights her energy agenda. During the debate, Harris vowed to support fracking, a shift from her previous support of the Green New Deal in 2019, which included a ban on fracking. Secondly, Harris no longer backs Medicare For All, a policy proposal that would offer universal healthcare for Americans. Lastly, Newman notes that Harris has adopted a tougher stance on immigration since 2019.

He explains that these policy shifts make sense as "she's running in a general election where she absolutely has to get the votes of moderates and independents," noting that the vice president's progressive past is weighing on undecided voters as the November election approaches.
