A pair of NASA astronauts on board the International Space Station (ISS) expressed their excitement to vote in the upcoming US presidential election from space, video posted on Tuesday, September 17, shows.

Footage posted to X by NASA shows astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, currently on an extended mission at the ISS, expressing their intention to vote from the spacecraft.

“It’s a very important role that we all play as citizens is to be included in those elections. And NASA makes it very easy for us to do that, so we’re excited about that opportunity,” Wilmore says in the video.

“It’s a very important duty that we have as citizens and [I’m] looking forward to being able to vote from space, which is pretty cool,” Williams adds.

In June, the two were launched into space with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft as part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, but ther mission was extended due to technical issues and the spacecraft returned to Earth uncrewed on September 6.

“Wilmore and Williams will continue their work aboard the station as part of the Expedition 71/72 crew, returning in February 2025 with the agency’s SpaceX Crew-9 mission,” according to NASA. Credit: NASA via Storyful
