Crews Rescue Pregnant Woman Caught in Floodwaters as Tropical Storm Trami Slams Philippines

Crews with the Philippine Red Cross worked to rescue a pregnant woman from rising floodwaters on Tuesday, October 22, as Tropical Storm Trami, known locally as Kristine, slammed parts of the Philippines.

This footage, posted to by the Philippine Red Cross shows crews walking through knee-high water as the woman lays on a stretcher. The crews are able to safely transport her into a nearby ambulance.

In the caption, the Philippine Red Cross wrote, in part: “Our team rushed to the aid of 20-year-old Nica Laurenaria from Barangay Gimaloto, Sorsogon, who was about to give birth. With roads impassable, brave volunteers crossed deep floodwaters to transport her safely to Sorsogon Provincial Hospital, ensuring she received the urgent care she needed.”

In the latest update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the “severe” tropical storm was now directly over the Cordillera Administrative Region, bringing heavy rain, severe winds, and a minimal to moderate risk of “life-threatening” storm surge.
