The top portion of a Douglas fir lauded as the world’s tallest Christmas tree snapped off amid high winds in Enid, Oklahoma, on Sunday, December 5.

The tree, named the Christ Tree, is the centerpiece in The One, an event the town is celebrating from the day after Thanksgiving through January 6.

According to the event’s website, the Christ Tree was originally 140 feet tall – 63 feet taller than the Rockefeller Center tree in New York City.

The part that snapped off measured 27 feet, event organizers said in a press release.

The gigantic fir traveled from California, where it was chosen from trees marked for harvest in Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

According to local reports, the top of the tree snapped off amid wind gusts of up to 50 mph.

Officers were at the site of the tree on Sunday night to ensure public safety, reports said.

This footage, filmed by Curtis Tucker on Monday, shows safety crews operating cranes as they try to safely detach the broken portion of the tree.
