The Arizona National Guard airlifted protective equipment on Monday, March 31, to health care workers fighting the coronavirus pandemic in Navajo County.

The National Guard said a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter loaded with personal protective equipment (PPE) was brought to Kayenta, Arizona, within Navajo Nation, the American Indian territory in parts of northeastern Arizona. Officials said the delivery was meant to support Navajo Nation, which sent five requests to the National Guard for help battling the new coronavirus.

Footage provided by the Arizona National Guard shows the helicopter flying over the region and guard members later unloading boxes of equipment.

The Arizona Department of Health Services said it has been aware of PPE shortages across national and local levels. The department has advised medical facilities to optimize their use of PPE in anticipation of a shortage.
