A moment of silence was held at Colorado’s Pepsi Center on January 26 after retired NBA star Kobe Bryant was killed along with eight others in a helicopter crash in California earlier that day.

TMZ reported that Bryant’s daughter Gianna Maria Onore was also on the helicopter and died in the crash.

In this footage filmed at the Pepsi Center in Denver before the Houston Rockets played the Denver Nuggets, the announcer can be heard paying tribute to Bryant’s career.

Figures from sport, entertainment, and politics also paid tribute to Bryant after his death was confirmed.

US President Donald Trump called Bryant a “basketball great” and said the crash was “terrible news.”

Bryant’s former teammate Pau Gasol said he was “beyond devastated,” while the NBA Player’s Association released a statement saying it was “stunned and devastated” by his death. Credit: Katy Winge via Storyful
