Harvey Weinstein and Accusers Reach Tentative $44M Settlement
Hervey Weinstein and his accusers reached a tentative $44 million settlement over his alleged sexual misconduct. Weinstein still faces criminal charges in New York on allegations of sexual violence by two women. The proposed settlement will reportedly allot $30 million for the accusers, former creditors of Weinstein’s studio, and some former employees. Approximately 14 million will pay for legal fees incurred by Weinstein’s associates. Weinstein’s accusers went public in October 2017, with allegations of sexual harassment, verbal abuse, and rape. Since then, more than 80 women have publicly accused him of sexual misconduct harassment, and assault. He was removed from the board of his own production company days after the initial allegations went public. Weinstein’s pre-trial hearings have been closed to the media as granted by New York Supreme Court Judge James Burke. He has pleaded not guilty for allegations of sexual misconduct and will stand trial in New York on September 9.
