Residents of Sarasota, Florida, boarded up structures around the city on Tuesday, September 27, as they braced themselves for the impact of Hurricane Ian, which is forecasted to hit Florida today.

The City of Sarasota declared a local state of emergency in response to Hurricane Ian, and the Sarasota police department said roads in the area would be closed off to all vehicles at 8 pm this evening.

Multiple counties across Florida have been placed under evacuation orders. During a press briefing on September 27, Gov Ron DeSantis encouraged residents of those regions to evacuate and provided further information about resources available to them.
