Animals at two South Australian zoos kept cool in a number of different ways, as summer brought warm weather to the region on December 1 and 2.

Footage filmed by Zoos South Australia shows a red-tailed black cockatoo and a barking owl at Adelaide Zoo enjoying a bath. Meanwhile at Monarto Safari Park, a southern white rhinoceros enjoyed a hose down and some lemurs relaxed on a cool mat.

Curator of Life Sciences Monarto Safari Park, Beth Pohl, said there are a variety of ways keepers can make sure animals stay cool, all of which are all specific to the species and each animal’s behaviour.

“Each animal is unique, some of our rhino loved to be hosed down, whilst others don’t actually like it!” she said. Credit: Zoos South Australia via Storyful
