Visitors to Arlington National Cemetery participated in a Flowers of Remembrance ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Sunday, May 28, to mark Memorial Day.

Footage released by the US Army shows visitors placing flowers in front of the tomb.

It was the second year that members of the public invited to place flowers at the Tomb, the US Army said.

The first Memorial Day – originally called Decoration Day – took place in Arlington National Cemetery in 1868, according to Arlington National Cemetery.
