Residents Evacuated as Deadly Wildfires Spread Across Central Chile

Police evacuated residents from a town in the region of Araucanía, Chile, as crews worked to contain dozens of deadly forest fires in the region on February 4, the country’s National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (SENAPRED) said.

Local reports citing Chile’s Deputy Interior Minister Manuel Monsalve said 23 people had been killed in the fires as of Saturday.

Footage released by the National Police of the Araucania Region shows evacuations in Carirrine, near the Araucanía town of Cholchol. SENAPRED issued an evacuation notice for Carirrine on Saturday.
