A Russian missile strike on a shopping mall in the central Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk on Monday, June 27, killed at least 18 civilians and left many others injured, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) said.

Footage released by the SES on Tuesday shows the search operation at the mall.

The acting governor of the Poltava region, Dmitry Lunin, confirmed on Telegram there were at least 18 dead.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday there were “more than a thousand civilians” at the location at the time of the blast.

The strike came after Zelensky addressed a G7 summit on Monday, asking for more sophisticated weapons.

The G7 leaders condemned the attack, calling it “abominable”.

“Indiscriminate attacks on innocent civilians constitute a war crime. Russian President Putin and those responsible will be held to account,” a statement said. Credit: SES Ukraine via Storyful
