A layer of ash covered a vehicle in Santa Rosa, California, on Monday September 28 caused by the many wildfires burning across Napa and Sonoma counties. The fire destroyed structures and prompted thousands of evacuations, fire officials said.

The fire, the cause of which remained under investigation, began at around 6 am on Sunday morning and remained at zero percent containment on Monday morning. On Monday, the fire grew to more than 30,000 acres.

In an update on Monday, Cal Fire said two additional fires started overnight and merged with the Glass Fire, adding that firefighters faced “strong and gusty offshore winds, low humidity, and dry fuels” as they continued their efforts to contain the fire.
