Demonstrators toting pillows and blankets participated in a “Sleep for Breonna Taylor” protest in Houston, Texas, on Sunday, September 27, footage from the scene shows.

Evvie Smith of Keep Moving Ministries filmed this footage showing protesters lying down on Pinemont Drive in Houston. The protest was organized in solidarity with Taylor, who had been sleeping before Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officers shot her while trying to serve a search warrant in the early hours of March 13. Taylor was struck multiple times and died in the hallway of her apartment, attorneys for her family said.

Sunday’s protest follows the September 23 indictment of one of three LMPD officers involved in the fatal shooting of Taylor.

Former LMPD officer Brett Hankison was charged with three counts of wanton endangerment in the first degree. Sgt Jonathan Mattingly and Det Myles Cosgrove, the other two officers who fired their weapons in Taylor’s apartment, were not charged.

Local media said Sunday’s protest was the first public demonstration in Houston since the grand jury’s decision. Credit: Evvie Smith/Keep Moving Ministries via Storyful
