Christmas Island red crabs gathered on the beach to release their eggs at high tide during the crabs’s annual migration, on November 28.

Henrique Kwong filmed a video that shows female crabs crawling on Flying Fish Cove beach and raising their claws before releasing their eggs into the ocean.

Female Christmas Island red crabs can produce up to 100,000 eggs during the annual crab immigration and mating event. The mother crabs will spawn before dawn “on a receding high-tide during the last quarter of the moon”, according to Park Australia website. Credit: Henrique Kwong via Storyful
