Survivors of the Auschwitz concentration camp returned there on January 27, the 75th anniversary of its liberation, to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The survivors were joined by Poland’s President Andrzej Duda, and Israel’s President Reuven Rivlin. Both leaders laid wreaths at the statue of Witold Pilecki, a Polish soldier who posed as a Jew in order to be taken to Auschwitz, where he gathered intelligence and helped start an inmate resistance.
