A hiker who HM Coastguard said was “a finger’s grip” away from “plunging to almost certain death” was rescued near Arbroath, Scotland, on January 23.

Footage released by the coastguard shows the dramatic rescue in what was described as a “race against time”.

A coastguard statement said the man was “clinging on” approximately 10 meters from the top of the cliff “in a precarious position – and slipping.”

According to a local media report, two lifeboat crews, three coastguard teams, a rescue helicopter, police and paramedics were deployed to the scene at Dickmont’s Den in the Seaton Cliffs Nature Reserve after the hiker’s companion had called 999. Credit: HM Coastguard – Angus and Dundee via Storyful
