President Joe Biden addressed the Canadian Parliament on Friday, March 24, during his first presidential trip to Ottawa.

During his speech, Biden stressed the strong relationship between the two countries throughout different periods in history.

“Americans and Canadians are two people, two countries, in my view, sharing one heart,” Biden said.

“It’s a personal connection: No two nations on Earth are bound by such close ties — friendship, family, commerce, and cultures.

“For more than a century in that historic endeavor, Canada and the United States have had each other’s backs. In war and in peace we have been the stronghold of liberty, safeguard of the fundamental freedoms that give our lives meaning,” Biden said.

“We have gladly stepped into the responsibilities of global leadership because we understand all that is at risk for Canadians and Americans alike when freedom is under attack anywhere in the world.”
