Amid Coronavirus Pandemic, Cherry Blossoms 'Pull Out the Stops' in Kyoto
Fewer people were outdoors enjoying festivities associated with Hanami — the cherry blossom season — in Japan as flowers bloomed in cities such as Kyoto on April 6.
Many events relating to the season were reportedly cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic, while international visitors also stayed away from Japan.
Camellia Tea Ceremony tea house, which posted this video to Twitter on April 6, said that “even the most mundane Kyoto street will pull out all the stops come early April.”
The tea house said it closed its doors for a month after the Japanese government declared an emergency in Tokyo, Osaka and five other coronavirus hotspots in the country.
