Crowds erupted in celebration in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 24 as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the city had been chosen to host the Winter Olympic Games and Winter Paralympic Games in 2034.

The city previously hosted the games in 2002.

Video posted by Mayor Erin Mendenhall shows jubilant crowds chanting “SLC” outside the Salt Lake City and County Building, where several hundred people had gathered early in the morning to watch the announcement on a big screen.

The president of Utah’s Senate, J Stuart Adams, who was in Paris to attend the IOC’s event, celebrated the decision in a video posted online, telling Utahans the state would “put on an Olympics like no one else has.” Credit: @SLCMayor via Storyful
